TREEGARTH

A circular lace shawl with optional knitted-on edging, Treegarth will surround you with a lacey forest. This is a long-awaited labor of love, and we are very happy to finally be bringing the pattern to you.

The initial themes for this shawl, back in the very beginning, were leaves and safety. I chose a selection of traditional lace motifs, carefully picked to complement each other while providing variation. I tried to arrange them in ways that bear significance to me - a star of hope in the center, surrounded by gentle waves, and by leaves that first shelter inward and then bloom outward, all interspersed with enclosing rings of concentric garter stitch. The word ‘treegarth’ uses the archaic -garth ending to refer to an enclosed green space or a garden. I first stumbled across it in my early childhood love of Tolkien. It felt perfect to describe the sense of enclosure and peace and growth I intended this shawl to provide.

MORI GLOVES

The Mori Lace Gloves use a simple lace at the wrist to create a gentle ruffle, then proceed up the hand with geometric lace at the back (bordered with a subtle 1×1 cable on each side) and a simple thumb gusset. There are special instructions for a bind-off that hits the sweet spot between stretchy enough for finger and thumb movement, and firm enough to not stretch out of shape. None of the lace stitches are exceedingly advanced; any intermediate lace knitter or adventurous beginner could have an easy time making a sweet, rustic set of fingerless mitts.

As written, they fit small to medium adult hands, but adjustment of needles or yarn could be done to adjust sizing.

Please note that the lace is charted only, but shaping instructions for the thumb are written out.

HEARTHSIDE HAT

For my entire knitting career, I’ve been pursuing the “perfect hat” - and while I have never recreated that one gift hat, I have found something else. Here, with full detail, is my personal perfect vanilla hat (that is, a basic, plain pattern), complete with all the little details that make it perfect for me. I use a combination of a specific cast-on, needle combination, and ratio of stitches between the ribbing and the hat to make an incredibly stretchy high-memory brim. I use a specific decrease rhythm for a well-shaped crown, and alter the needles and rhythm at the very end for a dense, fully closed top. I also include recommendations about places YOU can tweak the pattern to start finding your very own kind of perfect. Please feel free to contact me with questions!
